Microsoft Security Essentials: Quicker, more reliable than AVG Free

Until recently we would have recommended AVG Free Edition as anti virus software for personal use.

However there’s now a new kid on the block - Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE).

So why did we change our minds?

Here’s why we like Microsoft Security Essentials!

Why do we prefer Microsoft Security Essentials compared to AVG free?

	Overall it is quicker and more reliable. MSE is better at detecting malware, which is software installed on a computer without the owner’s consent.
	It has a simple interface which uses a green, amber, red principle for alerting you.
	MSE is less bloated. The downloaded file size is tiny at 7Mb compared to AVG’s 76Mb and once installed MSE only takes up 15Mb of disk space compared to 57Mb for AVG. Also AVG includes bundled software such as Yahoo toolbar which you have to deselect before installation.
	MSE works quietly in the background and checks for updates three times a day whereas AVG is less frequent.
