Monday 29th June | Windows 7 Virtual XP Mode
Having previously reported on the new features of Windows 7, we have had further time to play around with the full features of Microsoft's latest offering. The Virtual XP Mode is superb. It allows you to run a virtual XP desktop within Windows 7, which basically you can install legacy programs that won't work on Windows 7 or simply use it for testing purposes.

Following on from yesterdays breakfast, this morning we were in Stratford upon Avon for a networking breakfast. Networking breakfasts allow us to promote our Computer Services and IT Support to fellow businesses in Stratford upon Avon and allow us to source new suppliers in the local area.

This morning we were over in Kidderminster for a Chamber of Commerce business networking breakfast. Networking breakfasts are the ideal opportunity to promote your business to other local businesses whilst having a full English.
Wednesday 24th June | Slow computer? More memory could be the cure!
When it comes to a slow computer or laptop there could be any number of problems with your system. However, one of the most common problems is that the computer in question does not having enough memory, often called RAM. Adding more memory is the cheapest way to give an ageing computer a new lease of life.
Tuesday 23rd June | Redditch networking breakfast
This morning we were over at the Studley Castle, Warwickshire for a business breakfast meeting. With the sun shining we were able to discuss possible mutual business opportunities outside on the grounds of the castle. What a great way to start the day!
Monday 22nd June | Do "Micro Websites" boost your traffic?
We have setup a number of "Micro Websites" to see if we can boost traffic further to this main website. Over the next few months we will continue to monitor our website traffic and see if having a "Micro Website", alongside Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) can boost our website traffic.
Friday 19th June | Amazon bargains
Amazon suffered from a technical 'glitch' yesterday as some top music albums were reduced to a bargain 29p! As music lovers its a shame we didn't pick up a bargain, we hope you did! Source | PC Pro.
Thursday 18th June | Microsoft spoof email
Please be warned that there is a spoof Microsoft email doing the rounds. It claims there is an update available for Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express and points you to a website to download the update. This email is completely fabricated and should be deleted. Microsoft wouldn't email you direct requesting that you download one of their updates.
Wednesday 17th June | Leamington business breakfast meeting
Following our trip over to Rubery yesterday morning, this morning we were in Leamington for a business breakfast meeting. The meeting was exceptionally well attended and me made contact with some possible future suppliers, watch this space!

This morning we were over in Rubery, Birmingham for a business breakfast meeting. As a business we cover Rubery and all of the Birmingham area for all of our computer services and IT support.
Monday 15th June | Demon Internet services
Internet Service provider Demon is reportedly having problems with it's ADSL services. The problems their customers are encountering include sluggish connection speeds or no connectivity at all. Demon are advising their customers to restart their equipment before contacting them. Source | PC Pro.
Friday 12th June | Stratford business networking and Windows 7 overview
This morning we were over in Stratford|upon|Avon for a business networking breakfast. Lucid Computer Solutions owner, Gavin Moorhouse, presented an insight and overview into Windows 7. As part of the presentation, the seven deadly sins were integrated into the briefing to highlight the key features of Windows 7. Windows 7 is due to be released on 22nd October 2009.
Thursday 11th June | Microsoft producing free Anti Virus software
Microsoft is developing it's own free Anti Virus software. The software will compete with the likes of well established Anti Virus vendor AVG. The software is rumoured to be a basic version of the One Car package, which basically flopped a while back. It will be interesting to see how the software performs against its competitors. Wednesday 10th June | 30% of adults not using the Internet
Research carried out by Ofcom has found that 30% of adults are not using the Internet at all. Of this 30%, some 43% of them still wouldn't use the Internet even if they were given free broadband and a free computer. Lucid Computer Solutions would love the opportunity to convince these people. We think once they experienced the addictiveness of Twitter, the immediate updates on news websites and the comedy of YouTube videos they would be hooked! Source | BBC.

This morning we were at our home group of Redditch for a networking breakfast meeting to discuss what we did at the weekend, what is on the horizon, our computer support services, what business we might do together and what we were having for breakfast.
Monday 8th June | Why choose Windows 7?
As part of the build up to Microsoft releasing Windows 7 we will start to comment on the various features that we like. Today we want to highlight the rather clever BitLocker technology which allows you to encrypt USB drives to stop people accessing the data if you lose them. We also like the goldfish desktop wallpaper.
Friday 5th June | Disaster Recovery Solutions
Have you ever asked yourself what you would do if your main server or computer died? All hardware fails eventually, the key is that you have a plan in advance. We have some rather neat disaster recovery solutions which allow your existing installation to run on completely different hardware. This means you can transfer your existing setup across to a new machine and in some cases, this can be done in less than an hour.

We have teamed up with our friends over at The Paper Trail to implement Electronic Document Management solutions. Electronic Document Management is basically scanning your paperwork into an electronic system which is fully searchable and manageable. This then allows you to dispense of your old paperwork and locate it again much quicker.
Wednesday 3rd June | Windows 7 release date announced
The official date for the release of the next version of Microsoft Windows has been revealed. The general public will be able to purchase the product from 22nd October 2009. We have been testing Windows 7 over the last month and have found the performance is improved over Windows Vista.
Tuesday 2nd June | Dell ditches Mini 9 Netbook
Dell has stopped selling it's Mini 9 Netbook. The reason for this is so they can concentrate on selling their Mini 10 Netbook instead. The Mini 10 is more powerful than the original Mini 9 so in our opinion this makes perfect sense. Source | PC Pro.
Monday 1st June | Replacing your motherboard?
Today we have been stung by an old classic problem. We replaced a motherboard in a system and found that we couldn't get back into Windows. This was because the motherboards chipset was slightly different to the original and therefore Windows requires additional drivers to cope with this change. There are a couple of quick tricks to overcome this problem (which are a little techy!), if you need such help please contact us.
