29.07.10 | NHS Staff told to remove Microsoft Office

NHS Staff have been told to uninstall Microsoft Office if they have it installed on their home computers and if it was obtained through the NHS discounted Microsoft Office licensing scheme. This is because of the NHS's licensing agreement coming to an end with Microsoft. We recommend that if you are one of the people affected by this, to check out Open Office which is the free equivalent of Microsoft Office.

 08.07.10 | Googlebook

After the not so recent news of Google falling to the second biggest website in the world, losing its title to the social networking site ‘Facebook’, the company has decided to release its own version of the site named ‘Google Me’. Google's UK chief executive Matt Brittin said that there is room for competition in the social networking area of the internet, however in recent years many other sites have tried to make a stand against Facebook such as Bebo and MySpace, but all these have now paled into insignificance. Whether Google Me is going to follow in the path of failure is uncertain and there is going to be a long wait before it does emerge, but for now we can keep on guessing.

 05.07.10 | YouTube Hacked

This weekend the video sharing king was hit by a scripting attack that inserted insulting comments to the bottom of videos containing footage of Justin Bieber. As well as adding comments, the script rendered all previous comments invisible and diverted traffic away from YouTube to sites containing adult material. Google managed to remove the nasty comments from the videos within an hour of the attack and pushed out a complete fix for the script within the next two. They are now studying the way the script managed to bypass all security protocols to help prevent this type of thing from happening again.

 04.07.10 | Amazon Releases it's own E-reader

Many of us have heard of an e-reader, but for those of us who haven’t, it’s essentially an electronic book – one that has buttons to turn virtual pages and can store thousands of books on a simple memory card. So far, only a few have made it into the big market such as Sony’s E-book and possibly the new Apple iPad, however Amazon's new Kindle DX, which sports a higher-quality 9.7in screen, will sell for £250, down from £320. This makes the Kindle the second most expensive E-reader (the first being Sony’s E-book) but from what we can tell, it sports no special features that any other E-reader doesn’t have. Therefore, even though Amazon has cut the Kindle’s price for the second time in a row, it is still not the cheapest and not any more special, so if you are looking for an E-reader, go for the Sony E-book.
