The Lucid Review | Anti Virus Software
There are many Anti Virus packages out there on the market, which can make it daunting for the consumer or business owner. Thankfully the Lucid Review is at hand to take a look at a few of the top names.
Kaspersky Internet Security 2010
Kaspersky is a firm favourite here at Lucid Towers. It is reliable, cheap and detects more viruses than other vendors. This latest offering comes with improvements to the user interface, improvements to its overall system performance and has some great new features for keeping you secure online. What is also nice, is that the price hasn't gone up from its predecessor, so it remains unrivalled when it comes to value for money. This has to be the product of choice for the business user.
What we like: Price, virus detection rates and performance
We don't like: Digging through the advanced settings could be a
little daunting for a day to day user
Norton Internet Security
Norton is a commercial success thanks to its big advertising
campaigns and links with high street retailers. However as a product it
is some what lacking behind its rivals.
The program itself can slow
computers down significantly, it can cause problems when accessing
network resources and its over priced. We can't understand who would
want to pay around fifty pounds for this product when Kaspersky costs
around a third of this. The configuration and settings are also
difficult to get your head round (even for us geeks!).
What we like: The nice shade of yellow used in the branding
We don't like: Sluggish performance, high cost and complicated
interface
Avira Personal Edition
Avira Personal Edition is completely free, but only for personal home users. It can't be used in a commercial environment. This is our new favourite when it comes to free Anti Virus software. It used to be AVG but Avira is a much more rounded product than AVG with its reliability and detection rates. Avira also has a much quicker scanner than AVG which again boosts its appeal. Avira detects viruses and spyware, and detects them well. For anyone at home, this has to be the choice for you.
What we like: Its free, speedy scan times and detection rates
We don't like: The advert which appears when you update
We hope that you have found this mini review useful. Perhaps you can now save yourself some money by changing to a free or cheaper provider. At the same time you just might notice a performance boost as a result of changing provider.
