Windows 7 | What can it do for you?

You have probably used Windows XP (even if you don't know it!) and some people may have even used the not so well received Windows Vista. These are versions of the Microsoft Operation System called Windows.

Windows XP is tried and tested. It is the Operating System of choice for most businesses, but as with most things, all good things come to an end. Windows XP is a little dated now. Next you need to decide if you're brave enough to combat Vista (it actually isn't that bad) or if you hold for next version of Windows called Windows 7. Windows 7 is due to be released on 22nd October 2009.

Give me some businesses reasons to use Windows 7...

The decisions made by most businesses (even more so in the current climate) is what will you get in exchange for your hard earned cash? In this instance, what will Windows 7 bring you that Windows XP or Vista won't. Here we will take a look at some of the key business features:

Save money on your utility bills...

How on earth can Windows 7 save you money on your utility bills? Well the answer to this is remarkably simple. Windows 7 uses some clever power management which shuts down certain parts of your computer when they aren't being used. For example if you have four USB ports on your laptop but you aren't currently using them, it will shut down the power to these devices. Windows 7 will also turn down the power used by your laptop screen when it detects your aren't using it. This in turn means you are using less power, which therefore reduces your utility bills!

Keep your data more secure than the Government...

A day doesn't seem to pass these days without you hearing how the Government have lost all of our personal bank details in the post using a floppy disk. Well there is great news for them as Windows 7 features something called Bit Locker To Go. Bit Locker basically encrypts your USB drive so if you lose it, it cannot be directly accessed by someone else. With Bit Locker To Go on your USB drive, it will request a password when it is plugged in. You can't view any files until the password is entered. I just wonder if Gordon Brown is aware of this feature?

Faster start up and shut down times...

If you start your day by turning your computer on and then going to make a cup of tea whilst it starts up, then Windows 7 could well reduce your tea intake. The start up time and shut down have been vastly reduced over its predecessor (Vista). This means you and your staff can be more productive, spending more time working and less time waiting for Windows to start up. The overall performance of Windows 7 is also superior to that of Vista. If you have a computer that runs Vista or runs XP well, then Windows 7 should be able to run without problems. This will be comforting news to those people who had to replace their computers so they could run Vista.
